Wilmot Farmers Market began in 2001 with the original mission and purpose of fostering and strengthening community spirit and bonds. The Wilmot Farmers Market has its origins as a part of a fundraiser for the construction of the Bandstand on the Town Green, which was dedicated to the "Memory of the victims of 911." Starting in June, the the Bandstand Committee, comprised of Rhonda & Ed Gauthier, and Maureen Baron, organized fundraising events on the Town Green to raise money for the construction of the Bandstand, a gazebo-type structure, which would serve the community. By 2004, the Wilmot Farmers Market, with ten additional vendors, had become a fixture in the summer activities on the Town Green and was listed with the Department of Agriculture. Griselda Stahlman served as the first director. The market grew in popularity, both with customers and vendors, and in July of 2005, became a separate entity from the Bandstand Committee.
Since then, the idea has expanded into a profitable outlet for local and small family farmers, entrepreneurs, and artisans, promoting and encouraging the importance of preserving family farms, small businesses, and area agriculture.
The Wilmot Farmers Market has become a community hub filled with sights, sounds, and tastes that nourish, please, and entertain the entire family. Residents and visitors return week after week, season after season, to purchase directly from farmers and producers; greet old friends; enjoy a hot breakfast or lunch; and listen to music on the bandstand featuring talented area musicians.
